Explosion
My first day being let out of the Harmar Pet Store was one of
the most memorable days I have experienced. I remember feeling heartbroken
watching all my siblings as they wagged their tails good-by and went to a new
home. It reminded me of the sad day when
my siblings and I left our mom days before.
Every day I wanted to be one of the lucky ones to leave the
store, and every day I wanted to be reunited with the ones I called family.
Finally, my patience was rewarded when a little curly haired blonde boy pointed
to me. I try entertaining him by rolling around and playing with my squeaky toy
and sure enough, he focused his eyes on me. His
mom asked if they could play with me, and the man with the big hands took me
out and placed me in the boy’s arms. I
licked his face and he laughed. After a
few minutes, the boy asked his mom if they could take me home. He promised her he’d never ask for anything
else as long as he lived!
The nice lady said she would have to call his daddy. The dad asked, “do we need another dog?” She said “no,” but he knew when he got home
that night, there would be a new puppy in the house.
The drive to their house seemed to take forever, but I
snuggled in the boy’s arms. I heard his
mom ask what they should call me. I
wanted to say “Juice Box” because that is what my mom called me; but the boy
said “Cupid”.
That night I pooped on the floor in the living room because I
didn’t know the rules of the house. But
no one was mad about it. And pretty soon
I learned where I was supposed to do my business. I also met the other two dogs, Skippy and
Domino, but I never really got used to them, and they had a room of their
own. I got to sleep with the boy.
I still missed my mom and my sisters and brothers, but I grew to love the boy and his family, and they were nice to me. They let me sleep on the couch by the window, and in the winter the sun warms my back. They take me on walks and feed me twice a day and give me a special treat before bedtime.
